Village Taxes Due Wed July 22, 2020 Without Penalty

Dear Residents,

The Village tax bills have been mailed. Oyster Bay Cove received notice that we were  successful in getting  a 21 day extension on the interest free period from Governor Cuomo, after the  invoices were printed.   The tax payments are now due without penalty on Wed July 22 (instead of July 1st).  A 5% penalty plus $2 fee will be added for payments received from July 23-July 31.  An additional 1% will be added every month beginning with August 1st and thereafter.   Please note if your mortgage provider holds escrow for taxes, the tax bill should have been sent directly to your bank.

In order to give our residents more payment options, you can now pay your tax bill for an additional service fee by electronic ACH check or Credit Card on our website. The online tax payment system may be found by clicking HEREThe service fee is retained by the payment processor.   The Village receives no portion of  the service fee per New York State Law.  Since the Village is not allowed to accept partial payments, paying by credit card will allow you to pay over time and/or earn credit card incentives.

This year the Village Tax Levy  (excluding Fire)  increased by 4.37%   The Village total tax levy was still within the tax cap because we had carryovers from prior years that were not used.   The budget is comprised of the following expenses Police 67%, Garbage Removal 13%,  and 20% Village Office, Legal, Insurance and Street Maintenance.  Police Expenses increased by 5% primarily due to police labor contracts and contributions to the New York State Police Retirement System.

Sincerely,

Joanne A. Casale
Village Clerk/Treasurer
