April 8, 2024-Mayor Goulding joins Nassau County Officials to Oppose Governor's latest Affordable Housing Proposal

On April 8th, 2024,  Mayor Goulding joined Oyster Bay Supervisor Saladino  and a large group of Nassau County government and school district officials to oppose Gov. Hochuls latest effort to override local zoning laws and ramrod affordable housing into suburban communities.

The Governors proposal would allow the expedited construction of  5 story multi structures on Houses of Worship and non profit properties bypassing the normal environmental and zoning reviews.

N.Y. State Senator Jack Martin  made the point that their are over  300,000 six figure high income people improperly utilizing NYC rental control apartments that shouldn't be.    Long Island  is already in the process of buildings substantial amounts of new  affordable housing in Hicksville, Mineola and Hempstead and other communities following normal procedures.  Also in recent years, approximately   900,000 residents have left New York freeing up many housing units.
