Oyster Bay Cove's  long standing Police Chief Kevin Cronin retired on April 13, 2023.   The traditional final walk out ceremony  took place at the police station and  was well attended by fellow officers, friends,  family and numerous residents.  Oyster Bay  Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino spoke as did the Mayor's of Oyster Bay Cove and Laurel Hollow.  The ceremony included bag pipes and a Nassau County helicopter fly over.

Chief Cronin served 42 years with the Oyster Bay Cove Police Department and worked under many Mayors.   He  loved our community and always  provided the highest level of service to all of our residents..  In addition to customary police duties,  Chief Cronin  provided sage advice and valuable assistance in many areas including but not limited to resident issues,  highway maintenance,  traffic engineering, staff training, succession planning  and regulatory compliance.    We thank him for his outstanding service and wish him all of the best in his retirement.

Our new Police  Chief will be Sergeant Ted Mergel who is being promoted  from within the Oyster Bay Cove Police Department.   Ted Mergel is highly regarded by both Oyster Bay Cove and Laurel Hollow government officials and residents.    I have had the chance to personally work with him on multiple complicated issues and I know he is well  prepared for his new responsibilities.  The Oyster Bay Cove Board of  Trustees unanimously approved Sergeant's Mergel's  promotion to Chief and we all wish him well in his new position.

Sincerely,

Charles R. Goulding
Mayor
