September 13, 2023-Police Announcement

Police Department Promotions and New Officers

In the past 18 months, the Oyster Bay Cove Police Department has had significant staffing changes.  As previously reported, in April 2023, Police Chief Kevin Cronin retired and Sergeant Ted Mergel ( who has 20 years of police service of which 18 years has been at Oyster Bay Cove) was promoted to Police Chief. Additionally, two of our officers were recently  promoted to Sergeant.  Sgt. Michael Distefano has 18 years of police service, 16 of which has been at  Oyster Bay Cove and Sgt. Christopher Manez has 11 years of police service all of which has been with Oyster Bay Cove.

Due to a number of retirements, the Village has hired  Officer Justin Solof, Officer Daniel Aguilo and Officer Paul Lenoci.  Officer Solof has seven years of police service and was previously with the Northport Police Department.  Officer Daniel Aguilo has five years of police service and was previously with the N.Y.P.D.. Officer Paul Lenoci has four years of police service and was previously with the N.Y.P.D. .

The Trustees and I are very happy with our new police management team and I along with George Sheehan and Seth Lublin,  our Police Commissioners,  were part of the new hire recruiting process.

I know many of you know members of our police  force personally, so please don't hesitate to congratulate them.

Police Department Training

In June, the Oyster Bay Cove Police Department, along with numerous surrounding Village Police Departments, attended ALERRT training on the campus of C.W. Post college.  ALERRT stands for “Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training” and was named the National Standard in Active Shooter Response Training by the FBI in 2013.   Since its inception ALERRT has trained thousands of officers across the United States.  This was a great  opportunity  to obtain exceptional training,  and  to work closely with our neighboring Police Departments.

Sincerely,

Charles R. Goulding
Mayor
